The WeStart Global Mixer – London successfully brought together an oversubscribed group of 25 entrepreneurs and innovators from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the United States, Italy, Singapore, Switzerland, Finland, and the UK for an evening of cross-sector networking, gamified pitching, and global collaboration. Hosted at x+why Fivefields in Central London, the event featured founders from life sciences, AI, semiconductors, fashion, and other creative industries, all eager to share ideas and explore global opportunities.
 

StarterSeries: Turning Networking Into “Inspiration + Brainstorm + Fun”

At the heart of the Mixer was StarterDeck, part of the StarterSeries gamified training platform, designed to challenge entrepreneurs to rethink their assumptions and storytelling. Participants were asked to pitch the opposite of real startup ideas, provoking laughter, insight, and surprise. One team famously transformed a cancer treatment business into “Keep the Cancer,” prompting Niamh, one of the hosts, to exclaim: “You are all evils!”

In the final stage, winners were decided by weighing pirate coins — until a participant placed a chair on the table, sparking reflection on how true innovation can sometimes feel radical, disruptive, and even “non-ethical.” “These moments are exactly why we designed StarterSeries,” said Dr. Michael Yang. “Instead of a standard networking event, we create a space where entrepreneurs can play, reflect, and discover new ways to think about business.”

Global Impact and Next Steps

The London Mixer is part of the lead-up to WeStart 2025 Global Entrepreneurial Investment Conference, a flagship event under the “Innovate in Shanghai” International Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition. Top applicants from London will advance to the Shanghai semi-finals in September 2025, and then to the global finals in November 2025, with opportunities to access multi-million RMB tiered funding, policy incentives, low-interest loans, and exclusive tech ecosystem tours.
